The Weight of Lightness, 2026
Handmade paper from recycled atlas pages
Installed at Museo delle Mura
Collaboration with Grace Xu (USA)
The Weight of Lightness is a floor-based installation composed of handmade paper created from pulped atlas pages and printed materials gathered from Copenhagen, Rome, and San Francisco. Through soaking, crushing, and reforming, maps lose their authority as tools of borders and orientation, becoming fragile surfaces marked by memory, movement, and labour.
Installed within one of the stone towers of Museo delle Mura, the delicate paper fragments rest directly on the floor, creating a quiet tension between softness and monumentality. During installation, tears, folds, and footprints were left visible, allowing the work to continue evolving through contact and time.
The title reflects a paradox: although light in appearance, the paper carries the weight of many journeys, histories, and acts of transformation.
